Representing the lovers Freyr and his giant bride Gerdr this is a charm for happy fruitful union. Small pieces of gold foil, known as gullgubber, featuring engravings such as this dating from the Migration Period that occurred roughly between AD 300 to 700 have been discovered in various locations in Scandinavia, almost 2,500 at one location. The foil pieces have been found largely at sites of buildings, only rarely in graves.
