Veles is a major deity in Slavic mythology, associated with the underworld, water, magic, cattle, and wealth. He’s often depicted as a shape-shifting serpent or dragon who dwells beneath the earth or in watery realms. Veles is also known as a trickster and a rival of the sky god Perun—their mythic conflict symbolizes the eternal struggle between order (Perun) and chaos or the earthly realm (Veles). Despite this rivalry, Veles was widely worshipped as a protector of livestock, a bringer of prosperity, and a guide of souls to the afterlife
